    About
I'm going to start with this photograph since that is the question people ask me the most about.
This picture was taken on July 30th, 2018.
For new customers, or people that I have not previously communicated with... I'm the male. My name is Jack... nice to meet you!
The young lady behind me is Imo (Korean for aunt), and is my mothers sister. I was 40 in that picture. This is the first time she has been to this country and that was the first time I have ever met anyone on my mothers side of the family--talk about sacrifice.
The beautiful lady in front,  if you guessed, is indeed my mother. My mother, at this time was fighting for her life... she was diagnosed with a very aggressive stage iv cancer a few months earlier. It had already metasticized to other parts of her body. A couple of weeks before this she underwent emergency brain surgery to remove a tumor from her brain that would have killed her in days. I'm very thankful for the extra time I was able to spend with her. Not many people get that gift.
On August 19th, 2018... her fight was over. Her suffering ended. 20 or so days after this picture was taken.
    (continued below)

I started my earlier professional career in the Information Technology field. I started as a break / fix technician, moved to network administration 5 months later, then got hired as a Unix Systems Admin at a local ISP. Later on down the road ATT would kill all the ISPs with their DSL--RIP.
Farther on down the road my mother had a friend with a couple of gas stations that needed help... I'm super introverted and this was way far outside of my field and pay expectations... but I agreed. The money wasn't great but the expeierence with working and dealing with customers... unbeknownst to me at the time, this will lead to better things.
We purchased our own gas station... I do not recommend this to anyone. Its cut-throat and margins are slim unless you do shady business... again this experience was invaluable and would lead to better things.
I was in oklahoma.... staying at my uncle's house after we just sold the store... my car was paid off so I didn't really have any big expenses. My grandmother was told that she had 3 months to live... so I went to help them take care of her (turns out they were wrong... she's still alive...) as the money I saved was running out... I saw a management position open up not far from my house with Love's Travel Stops. I applied... had the shortest interview ever... as soon as soon as I said I owned a gas station with a Chesters Chicken... the job was offered to me. I told the district manager that since I am from Arkansas... I will commit to you for a year or so in Oklahoma and then I'd like to be transferred to Arkansas, eventually. He agreed, and thus started my 3 year journey with the
    best
company I have ever worked for.
No day was EVER the same, a lot of long hours, and employees complaining about others. This is definitely not for everyone. I thrived. After I made it back to Arkansas... I got transferred to the North Little Rock store. It was an older store... but it was much busier than the stores I worked for in Oklahoma. It had maybe 4 or 5 times as many employees... and 3 resturaunts. The ones in Oklahoma that I worked at only had a subway... one had a hardees but it was leased.
The store burns down. Total loss.
So for the next year or so... I put about 20k miles on my car commuting some times almost 2 hours 1 way for work. This was very difficult. Working 10-12hours.... driving another 4.... but the company made sure everyone that still wanted a job... had one. Again... this just shows you the level of commitment that Love's has towards their employees. The managers had to travel the farthest (we got paid mileage... no where near enough to put the miles I did on my car)
New store is finished we open... and we went to pumping 1.5million gallons of diesel a month. Totally insane. This store was a beast. Anyway the experience I gained here was again very invaluable. Trust me... if you can deal with an angry truck driver... you can deal with ANYTHING. I learned a lot about business financials, merchandising, but most importantly.... I could easily interact with customers whom I've never met before.... where in the past this would cause me to nearly have a panic attack.
My mom passes... I was told to take as much time as I needed... all in all I think I probably took 2 maybe 3 months. What other company will do that for you? My sister and brother-in-law both had had 20+ year long careers with  big companies.... my sister was able to take 3 days... my brother in law got called back the next day.
Loves was short handed for managers, but they didn't even flinch. FYI... managers of stores like North Little Rock... they make excellent money. General Managers.... excellent money times 4... people think the employees that work at "gas stations" make minimum wage... while the cashiers are the lowest paid... once you are a manager... you make real money. Since it is a privately owned company... they don't answer to shareholders and this is the key. They can do what they want... when they want... and if your store is rolling.... you profit shares will be as well. AWESOME company.
As I came home from work one day.... complaining about something not important... the last piece of advice I receieved from my mother was, "I don't know why you aren't doing eBay. You were good at it."
10 years or so prior... I did have an ebay store... more of a side-gig. My mom worked at Dillards so I was about to utilize her 50% discount... on clearance items. This was HUGE. Other sources I used was samsclub auctions... which started off great... then as more and more people figured it out... prices increased and margins dropped. My mom ended up finding employment somewhere else so then I lost that discount. That is when I closed my first eBay store. It was very sucessful... until I lost my sources.
So I start reasearching and locations several sources... the sources were great... but the lots were 00+... and you dont know what, if anything works -- very risky. I started buying lots and selling a few items... then it kept progressing to a point where I was for sure that I would be able to do this for a living.
Regrettfully, I resigned my positon at Love's. Cashed out my 401k and put that money into inventory and equipment. Month to month increases... i wanted to see what I could handle max with no employess... just by myself... k/month. To reach that number... was very stressful and hectic. I need organization and maybe an employee, but definitely an inventory/barcode system first... otherwise stuff could be stolen and i'd never know.
Storage space is also high on the priority list as I pay over 0 in storage fee's which is a waste.
My business is legitimate and registered with the State of Arkansas and also with the federal government.
I'm always looking for new business opportunities... drop me a line if you have a suggesting or need a partner. If you can find me storage space, inventory system... or pretty much anything that can speed my process up.... contact me.
I will not buy 2 laptops from you at 50% of the prices they are selling on eBay for. Now if you have a large lot reasonably priced.... hit me up.
I think that is about eveything. If you read this far I hope I'm a little interesting. :p
P.S. This stuff is very personal to me. Especially about my mother. I have not even shared of Facebook or any other social media what I have shared with you. I'm not after attention, pity, or anything like that. I've simply shared that information to convey how passionate I am about what I do and how important this store is to me.
